
Dr. Larue Fitch, an accomplished educator and transformational leader, begins his tenure as Principal of Charles Evans Hughes Elementary School on December 2, 2024. A graduate of Saint Xavier University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Chicago State University with a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration, Dr. Fitch has built a career rooted in advocating for diversity, equity, and the success of all students.
Dr. Fitch’s journey in education began as an elementary school teacher, where he served students in grades 4 through 8, teaching science, literacy, and math. Over seven years, he established a reputation for fostering a safe, engaging learning environment that supported students’ academic growth and personal development. His commitment to building meaningful relationships with students laid the foundation for his passion for leadership.
Recognized for his innovative approach and dedication, Dr. Fitch transitioned to a leadership role as a Science Lead Teacher. This pivotal experience allowed him to collaborate with colleagues and sparked his aspiration to pursue greater opportunities in educational leadership. He later served as both Assistant Principal and Resident Principal within Chicago Public Schools, further honing his expertise in instructional leadership, data-driven decision-making, and community engagement.
As Principal of Hughes Elementary School, Dr. Fitch brings a culturally relevant approach to leadership, aiming to transform the school community. His vision is centered on closing achievement gaps through data-informed instruction, implementing robust Tier 1 supports to address both academic and social-emotional needs, and devising effective strategies to combat chronic absenteeism. With 17 years of experience, Dr. Fitch is well-prepared to galvanize students, educators, and families, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
