Dr. Larue Fitch, Principal

Hughes Elementary has long served the community, but we are now on a mission to elevate, transform, and lead. Under the guidance of Dr. LaRue Fitch, we have embraced a new identity and a new purpose—one that places students at the center of everything we do.

Hughes-New Day

A New Day. A New Age.

At Hughes, we don't hide anything. Our doors are open. Parents can come right in and talk to us. We can engage. We have this policy because we want them to understand that in order for this to work, we need to be on one accord. We need to work together.

Our goal is to instill into our teachers that they need to look at parents as the first teachers. We ask them, "How does your child like to learn? We get their feedback. "What can you do to support me?" That's the vulnerability.

What's In the Best Interest Of the Child?

"Every decision that's made is always in the best interest of children. We have to remember these students are impacted, either positively impacted or negatively impacted. And I want our students to leave here to say, 'You know what? I had a great experience at Charles Evans Hughes because that teacher actually affirmed me. That teacher knew me. I was identified in the curriculum. I felt good. They made me feel comfortable.' I want our children to leave like that."
